Penn College Competition Winner Honored

Pennsylvania College of Technology recently held a competition to recognize and honor students.  The competition was held December 8 & 9, 2023.  The event  consisted of 12 industry-sponsored competition stations. Students  showed off skills as they competed for Penn College scholarships, individual prizes, training aid program scholarships, and trophies.

Students took an on-line skills test prior to the competition.  The skills test was designed by Penn College faculty.  The test allowed 130 minutes to be completed. Students took their test individually and without resources. Questions were related to safety, hardware, tools, clutches, manual transmissions, driveline, differential, automatic and automated transmissions, hydraulics, HVAC, brakes, engines, fuel systems, emissions and electrical.  A select group was selected to then compete.  The top 15 highest scoring diesel programs were invited to compete. The top 2 highest scoring students from those programs (juniors or seniors) were invited to compete.

Jamie Roman, Sullivan County senior and NTCC Diesel Mechanic student, took 1st place in the transmission station at the Penn College competition.  Jamie was honored on February 28, 2024 at NTCC by Andy Kunselman, the technical recruiter for Hunter Truck. He was given a 1/2" Milwaukee Impact and several shirts and sweatshirts from Hunter Truck.  Hunter Truck was one of 10 companies that participated in the competition.
